Ahh... Monday again. It was a really good weekend. Halfway through yesterday, I looked at the clock and realized that the weekend was almost over, and I was seriously bummed.
Friday night, we went to the city to have dinner with Fiona. B got home from work, and we took the train into the city. We met her at PJ Carney's, where she finishes her shift at about 7 pm. After that, the three of us headed over to the Pig and Whistle for a beer before our dinner reservation at 8:30.
We ate at PJ Clarke's. It is the oldest bar in Manhattan, completely preserved with all of its originality. When we arrived, it was completely swamped. There was a line out the door. After we ate our dinner, I knew why. We ordered macaroni and cheese with peas and bacon, which was incredible. Fiona and I shared the Maryland Crab Cakes and B ordered a bacon cheeseburger. The entire meal was so delicious! Seriously, some of the best food I have ever had. B even muttered the words, "Best burger I've ever tasted..." which is a huge deal.
After dinner, we walked back to the Pig and Whistle for a few more drinks and to meet Godwin, B's brother. It was a gorgeous night. The weather was perfect. We sat near a window over looking the street. We had a lot of laughs, and of course a bit too much to drink. I slept for most of the train ride home.
Saturday night I worked at Trat V. It was a really, really busy night. The kind where you really don't know what you are doing, but your hands and feet are on auto-pilot. The restaurant has been so busy lately, that we have had to have make shift tables lined outside. People have been waiting out the door. I'm not complaining. It certainly makes the shift go faster, and my pockets a bit fuller.
My friend Gina came to visit me and sat at the bar for dinner and a glass of wine while I finished my shift. After work was over, we walked to my apartment where we shared a bottle of Aglianico with B and lounged on the couch. I ended up falling asleep during my second glass of wine, mid-conversation.
Sunday morning we walked up to TNT Luncheonette for our egg white & mushroom omelettes with Robin. We coincidentally met Gina on our walk over. The four of us had a great breakfast and a lot of laughs. Afterward, we all walked back to the apartment and had some blueberry and pomegranate mimosas with the leftover Asti from the wedding. We have two cases of it.
The rest of the afternoon, Brian and I spent lounging around and relaxing. It was really nice to sit and do nothing for once. Our schedules have suddenly become opposite. I see him briefly in the mornings, and at night when I get home from the restaurant, he is already asleep. It's really frustrating. It's also why Sundays are now becoming my favorite day of the week, because I have him all to myself. Just for a while...
sunday morning
slow beats seething
through the screens in
the open windows
eggs frying
legs shaking
after we stayed lying
so long in bed
sunday morning
both of us reading
and looking up occasionally
looking up occasionally
sunday morning
you're doing your thing
and i am doing mine
speaking words
more a formality
cuz we can feel we
are of one mind
sunday morning
sheets still warm
kitties swarming
around our feet
life comes easy
your sweet company
making it so complete
