run on

I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic today. Call it a funk, call it the blues…

A lot is going on in my world and I’ve started to do some soul searching. I’ve been sitting here listening to an old album on my Ipod. It’s one that I used to listen to after moving back from Colorado. That time in my life was consumed with doubt and confusion. I listened to a lot of trip hop and spent a lot of time finding myself consoled by it. That and booze and other bad choices, but that’s neither here nor there.

It’s weird how I listen to certain music at certain times in my life. It changes all the time.

For example, I used to listen to this while curled up on my Aunt’s couch reading and listening to the baby monitor to make sure Sam was still sleeping soundly. It’s the kind of music that keeps you mellow and reflective. It’s perfect for alone time, reading, drinking a bottle of wine, having intelligent conversation or even making love to it.

I love trip hop and any kind of electronic music. It’s always just fit for me. As long as you love it, you can never get tired of finding new music to hear. The drum beats and bass helps me to reflect and focus. It’s religious, sexy and imaginative all at the same time.

A lot of it also reminds me of times past. Sometimes specific tones and beats that bring me back to certain places and faces. People that introduced the music to me, friends that I danced to it with…

Even car rides. I remember certain car rides and conversations. I remember talking and laughing with Ashley while driving along Nipmuc Lake. I made her listen to this cd with me and we sat and watched life go buy us in her Blazer jeep that always ran out of gas.

It’s amazing how a piece of music can do it to me…
