shower to shower

“I'm still waiting to find something that makes me really think today. That's what showering is for.” My favorite author Stephanie Klein wrote this on her blog today.

That quote got me really thinking.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely take showers to think. I have some of the most serious conversations with myself when I am in the shower. I take all the time in the world when I am in there. Exfoliating, shaving, washing my hair... and just enjoying the silence. (It could be why I never make it to work on time. Ever.)

You know the cute little saying, “Save water. Shower with a friend." Yeah, I am not into showering with B. Once and a while, sure. But, there's something about it. Its kind of like my time to myself. I like to be alone with my thoughts.

When I am in the shower, I can play over everything that has been going on in my head and in my life. I replay conversations and wonder how it could go differently. I spend a lot of time examining my stream of consciousness and what is next. This morning I thought about how in 29 days I will be taking a shower before getting on a plane to Africa. Stupid, but true.

You know what I love even more than showers? Taking baths. It kind of stinks because the apartment that we live in has a shower door on the tub, so it kind of takes away from the effect of the sensuality of it all. I love sinking into bubbles with hair on top of my head, preferably a glass of wine and candles all over the place. But I just can’t do it in that freaking tub. I hate it!

I remember specific instances of some of my favorite times in the tub. I remember being at my friend Lucy’s house in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England and her telling me, “We don’t have a shower. Only a tub.” I died and went to heaven every morning being able to soak in that tub, and look out the window into her mother's flower garden.

So… I need a new bathroom. I think I am going to have to do something about this. I think its time to make us a new room conducive to all of the goodness that a good long soak in the tub can bring. It is the best place to be alone and to pamper yourself for that fifteen (or twenty) minutes in the morning or evening.

Am I right or am I right?
