Tuesday night was date night. I sacrificed it to a night on the couch. All that I wanted to was eat sushi on our new Crate & Barrell plates from our registry and drink a killer bottle of South African pinotage.
On my way home from the office, I went to Stop & Shop to do a full grocery shop for the house. It's been a while. Brian met me there on his way home from the office. (He met me there because I am not allowed to grocery shop by myself, because I pretend I have someone else's checking account. Plus, I am always hungry when I get there and end up preparing a hundred "fun" meals in my head that end up with wilted vegetables and spoiled ingredients because I never get to them.)
I am half way through the shopping when Brian makes it to me. I pretty much have a full cart at this point. He starts inspecting my cart, asking me "What's this?" or "Since when do you eat that?" It was starting to really irritate me. Or, "So... is it really worth the $6 for this bottle of Valencia OJ just because you love the fancy commercial?" I wanted to scream.
So, I send him off to go and pick-up the cold cuts that I ordered at the deli. In the meantime, I make it up to check out before him. I spitefully threw an O.K. Magazine at the conveyor belt. (It was on sale for $1, which I thought was totally a bargain from the $2.99 for the US Weekly.) Brian comes up and we start unpacking the cart.
The girl that is ringing me up is this teenager with a scowl on her face. Her cronie was bagging my stuff. As I am frantically unpacking the cart, (trying to hide things I know I am going to get in trouble for) I hear this girl making comments about my food choices to her friend. "Oh my God. I can't stand it when people get sliced meats and cheese from the deli. It's so disgusting." I let it go. Then she starts talking about my soy ice cream, "This is so gross. It's not even real ice cream." And then... she got to my sushi. Now, as I had mentioned before all I wanted to do was go home and eat my sushi and drink my wine. She picks up the sushi and scans it with her nose all scrunched up. Then she picks up my seaweed salad and says, "EEWWWWWW. What is that smell? How can you even eat this?" And looks right at me. I looked her right in the face and said, "Do you comment on every customer's food that you ring up?" She looks dumbfounded nods her head yes. "Well, you shouldn't. It is so rude." She bagged the rest of my groceries in silence and didn't say a word to me.
I have never been so pissed off in my life. Then... as we are about to leave Brian says to her, "Thank you, sweetheart." As if he was apologizing for my b*tchiness. I wanted to run the full grocery cart over his toes.
Needless to say, I went home and ate my smelly seaweed salad and drank the entire bottle of wine. It was delish.
