"And now an audience member in the 2nd row will lead us in the National Anthem."

Birthdays are a big deal to me. The most important birthday of all? My husband's. I love making a ridiculously huge deal of him on his day. Every year I try to do something different and unexpected. Something that will just make him never forget that one night.

This year, for his 32nd birthday, I got him tickets to see Blue Man Group. I had seen the show many, many years ago and knew that he would totally love it. We took the subway to Astor Place and had a drink at Indochine, a sheik restaurant next door to the playhouse. It was the perfect way to start our night out. Brian kept looking at his watch while we had our cocktails. I could tell that he was excited to get in there. He had no idea what to expect which made him a bit apprehensive.

When finally got into our second row seats and put on our ponchos, he looked over and me and said, "I love you so much, you know that?"

Before the show began, the audience was kept entertained with a lot of interaction. There were large black communication boards with red digital words that ran left to right. Random audience members were singled out to do strange things while the entire mass of people cheered them on. Brian was in total awe.

I could tell that he was fidgeting in his seat thinking he was next. "B, I hope you didn't do anything. I know how you are." I assured him that I hadn't done a thing and that he was safe. In the next instant, the board announced, "An audience member in the second row will now lead us in singing the National Anthem." And wouldn't you know it... the spotlight shined directly onto my husband's shock-ridden face. He actually went to get up out of his seat and do it when the board flashed, "Just kidding." It was a really awesome moment.

The show went on and it was everything I remembered. I was so glad that I got to experience it with Brian. When it was over, he talked about it most of our subway ride home. It made me so glad to know that we had just gone on another adventure together.

That is what it is all about for me. It's all about getting out there and experiencing things. I'm always looking for the next trip to take, movie to see, band to listen to. New restaurants to try, new places to travel to and new people to meet and enjoy life with. I want us to live a life that is full of fun for as long as we get a chance to live it. I'm so grateful that I have a husband that feels the same way, and is always up for anything.

I LOVE the Blue Man Group! I saw them here in DC and I'll never forget it. Though I can't think of them without thinking of Tobias Funke...
