I voted!

Well... its official. I voted! This was my first time and it was pretty exciting! We went to the polls super early this morning. It was really convenient because we vote directly next door at the firehouse.

We decided to go with a few friends, which gave us a bit more motivation to get up that early. That... and the promise of breakfast at the diner afterwards. What's better than a good greasy diner breakfast for voting?

Need more of an incentive? How about free Ben & Jerry's ice cream, a free Starbucks cup of coffee or even better... a free sex toy! Hell yeah!

So me, Brian, Chrissy, Mike and Robin met outside our building at 6 am. We were a cute little family. A grouchy, sleepy and sarcastic little family. I was somewhat amused at how much dedication we had to cast our vote that early in the morning before the long lines started.

When we arrived, we were the first ones there. The voting machines were a bit intimidating. They were the kind that looked like they originated in 1942. There was a lever that opened and closed the curtain with a loud clang. To cast your vote you had to pull down a big red lever to have it collected. It sounded like a gigantic cash machine. It looked a lot more difficult than it was. I was surprised how simple it was. Once it was over... it felt good! We were in and out in about fifteen minutes.

The five of us shared an early breakfast together at the diner. We sipped coffee and complained about how much we wanted to be back in bed. It was a great morning. I forgot how nice it is to get up early and have a bit more control over your day.

My only complaint? No "I voted" buttons! I was hoping that I would have something to boast that I did my American duty today.

I'm really eager to find out the outcome of this election. I'm feeling pretty accomplished that I finally took the liberty of voting. It will be interesting to see what kind of history is made today. Whether the first African American president or our first woman as a Vice President... its certainly going to be an interesting result.
