True Blood

You know that new show on HBO called "True Blood?" I'm hooked. Not even like a small obsession... I'm talking huge. I wait for Sunday 9pm like I am waiting for my first meal after going on a fast for seven days straight.

I have always had an allure for any story related to vampires. It all started when I was young. My Dad plopped me on his lap and we watched the entire feature of "Salem's Lot". He would keep his hands over my face for the scary parts. His fingers loosely covering my eyes so that I could just peer through the gaps between his fingers to see the really grusome parts.

I've always loved Anne Rice. Dracula, Blade anything that includes fangs, blood and biting. There's something about that supernatural life that intrigues me to no end. Think about it. It's sexual, frightening and dangerous. All ending in the opportunity for eternal life.

I don't know why I am drawn to the supernatural. Anything magical or mystical has me imagining myself in that world. It's always me that is gullible enough to believe anything that would stretch anyone's logic.

This series explores the idea of humans and vampires living in the same society. They have equal rights for vampires and local bars even serve Tru Blood in a bottle just like a Bud Light. (Except the Tru Blood is heated to 98.6 degrees before being served.)
For the one hour that the show is on, I am drawn into a time and place where I can actually picture this happening. I find myself wondering what it would be like to live in this way... and wanting to live it!

The main character, Sookie, has the ability to read minds. As she is waiting tables at Merlotte's the local pub, she can hear the customers and their stream of consciousness in their minds. It's unsettling and fascinating. Imagine being able to concentrate hard enough on the person sitting in front of you that you could hear all of the thoughts that are tumbling through their minds? Hearing all of the secrets that no one would ever say out loud?

I know it sounds silly... but I am totally enamored with this show. Truly... there is nothing sexier and more mysterious than this show. And a hot man with a set of fangs.
