October 6th

Every time I celebrate a birthday, it is the same thing. I become a nostalgic mess.

I don’t know why this occurs, but as soon as October hits I am set adrift on a memory trip of all of the birthdays I have ever celebrated. When I reflect back on the years that have passed and the person that I have become, I am often very emotional.

There have been so many mistakes made. So many irresponsible actions and broken hearts due to my carelessness. Friendships lost. Feelings of regret.

There have also been so many wrongs made right. Falling in love with
the most incredible man I could ever ask for… ever hope to even look in my direction. So many dreams that I never thought could come true, realized. Such transformation as a person. I’ve forgiven and forgotten. I’ve made friendships that will inevitably stand the test of time. I’ve never laughed or cried so hard in my life. I’ve found a family that I belong to. I feel as though I have grown and blossomed, even though my bloom did take a lot longer than I expected it to.

I feel different this birthday. Older and wiser. I am ready to face twenty-eight with a new energy. I’ve blown out twenty-seven candles, always wishing for love, luck or good fortune. And this year I am going to wish for one thing… Peace. Peace within the journey to better myself and in all of the relationships in my life that keep me safe and loved.

Cheers to October 6th! The day I was born under that lucky star…
